Congeniality Bonus

Towards the end of the competition, each team will be prompted to submit their nomination for the Congeniality Bonus. The Congeniality Bonus allows teams to award up to 5 points total to up to 5 other teams which they feel are deserving of a bonus, either for following the Aerospace Jam Ethos, or being especially friendly or helpful to other teams in helping them troubleshoot or otherwise solve issues that they may experience on competition day.

A team can hypothetically gain an arbitrarily large amount of bonus points from the Congeniality Bonus - but this would require a lot of work to sway the favors of the other teams. Keep this in mind during competition day!

Rules and Procedure​

To ensure fairness and clarity, the Congeniality Bonus will be administered according to the following rules:

  • Voting Mechanism: Each team will be given the opportunity to nominate up to five other teams. For each team you nominate, that team will receive one bonus point. You cannot give more than one point to a single team.

  • Self-Nomination: Teams are not permitted to vote for themselves. Any self-nominations will be discarded.

  • Submission: Nominations will be collected via a form provided on competition day. Only one official submission per team will be accepted, and it must be submitted by the team's adult mentor.

  • Scoring: The total bonus points awarded to a team will be the sum of all valid nomination points received from other teams. This final bonus will be added to the team's grand total score for the competition.

  • Spirit of the Award: This bonus is intended to reward genuine acts of sportsmanship and collaboration. Organized vote-trading or other attempts to manipulate the outcome are against the Aerospace Jam Ethos and may result in disqualification from the bonus at the judges' discretion.

  • Finality: All tallied results for the Congeniality Bonus are final and are not subject to dispute.

Example

If Team A is nominated by Team B, Team C, and Team D, Team A will receive a total of 3 bonus points added to their final competition score.
